News and updates in the world of La'cryma Christi

Interested in mystical dreamlike music with a wicked groove? Still stuck in the era of hair rock? La'cryma Christi goes all over the spectrum from their early days with a sound uniquely their own to the latest work which sounds eerily close to AC/DC. Except in Japanese.

La'cryma Christi is a Japanese rock band, formed in 1994, which many fans of the Japanese music scene know the name of, maybe a few of their songs, but often not much more. They're not often a chart-topping band, but they've been together for ten years now and have been successful since their debut. Even if the average person doesn't know the name of every band member, fans of the band are formidable in their enthusiastic support of the group.

La'cryma Christi's early sound is very dreamlike and multilayered with a heavy influence of Eastern mysticism and mythology. They play around with melody and toss it between instruments, back and forth in a song. It makes the music a little hard to follow at first listen sometimes, but it gives their songs a lot of depth. Their music is very atmospheric, although also deceptively catchy. Lately, they have been putting out songs that draw heavily from bands that influenced them, some of the so-called "hair rock" groups of the 80s like AC/DC and Whitesnake. Their recent hard rocking highway driving sound is a departure from their earlier work, but also a great opportunity to see a new side of the band.
